[Openmcl-devel] bug in the IDE? query-replace paste

This may be the same bug as

<http://trac.clozure.com/openmcl/ticket/258>

Part of the crash involves a kernel debugger breakpoint: a method
is called trying to get the attributes (font/color/etc) of the
echo area text at an index that's outside the range of that text;
that shouldn't happen, and we try to log some info and enter the
kernel debugger when it does. Just trying to enter the kernel
debugger in the standalone IDE may not work too well ...

When things are run via

? (require "COCOA")

and provoked via "M-x" (to get the "Extended Command: " prompt in
the echo area, pasting into the echo area logs a message like:

  2008-06-08 23:22:32.642 dx86cl64[1214:613] Bounds error - Attributes at index: 18  edit-count: 2 mirror: Extended Command: {
[... lots of info about the attributed string ...]
)

and a backtrace shows:

So, we're in sort of a recursive event loop processing key events in the
echo area, and may not be aware of the fact that other things ("paste"
and other menu commands) are modifying the echo area buffer.
