I appears to work now, Alex, but  I haven't tested it a lot.

Interestingly, your code requires no modifications.  I bound  
incremental styling to TAB, so you're all set.  Just fetch the new  
version of syntax-styling.

The two utilities work well together -->  Brains and Beauty.
