I think I got the same thing recently. It's spooky. As if window 
display doesn't work or is on some non-existent screen. No files seem 
to open, no listeners, no new buffers. Didn't get any error reports.
Being blinded, I trashed whole trunk folder, didn't touch prefs 
files, completely fresh download. All seems normal again 
(1.6-dev-r14373M-trunk  (DarwinX8664)).
