I just committed http://trac.clozure.com/ccl/changeset/16639 to the trunk, which I think should solve the long-standing bug with format ~e mentioned in http://trac.clozure.com/ccl/ticket/563 and in http://trac.clozure.com/ccl/ticket/1186.

I'm trying to run the test suite from maxima-5.37.2, but starting with rtest6a, I get errors that I don't understand.

Anyway, if r16639 turns out to look OK after spending some time in the trunk, I'd be willing to merge it to the 1.11 release branch.
