I haven't encountered any real 32-bit x86 machines lately, but
I do still encounter 64-bit machines that can host 32-bit virtual
machines but can't host 64-bit VMs without being reconfigured and
rebooted.  I always reconfigure and reboot, but there might be some
people who would prefer to forgo that and just use a 32-bit VM.
